It’s safe to say, a lipstick can turn out to be the most powerful makeup product to have in our vanity. After all, just one swipe of red lipstick can make you feel sexy and confident in no time. Even if you are wearing no makeup or minimal makeup just one swipe of lipstick can transform your look from drab to fab. It literally works like magic and instantly changes the way you appear. While there are so many good things about lipstick, but there is no denying the fact that we girls often do a lot of mistakes when applying it, which can easily make you look older or gaudy. Lipsticks come in different finishes, from matte to satin finish, each lipstick has different formulation and texture and that is why it’s important to prep your lips before applying anything to your lips. Just like your skin and hair, your lips also require attention and care, which can include exfoliation and moisturizing as well.
We have listed a few things which you should keep in mind when applying lipstick.
Exfoliation helps to get rid of chapped lips
We all have gone through days where our lips feel all chapped and dry and that’s because our lips have the thinnest layer of skin which doesn’t get enough moisture. And due to the lack of moisture, our lips become all dry and chapped. Applying lipstick to chapped lips will give a very scaly appearance which honestly looks very weird and that’s because you didn’t exfoliate them. Exfoliation helps you in achieving super soft and smooth lips and helps you get rid of chapped lips. For exfoliation, you can use a scrub that works well for your lips. You can also exfoliate your lips by using a sugar scrub and a toothbrush.
Moisturizing is the key
The way our skin tends to feel dry and flaky without a moisturizer, our lips tend to feel the same way. They also require all the moisture they can get. Hydrated and moisturized lips are the key to smooth and perfect application of lipstick which is why it’s important to nourish them with a good lip balm. While some lipsticks come with moisturizing properties but it’s always good to apply a lip balm prior to the application of lipstick especially if it’s of dry formula. You can pick a lip balm that contains moisturizing ingredients such as coconut oil and shea butter. Also drink plenty of water to keep your lips well hydrated.
Always apply a lip liner
A lot of girls often skip out on this step, but trust us when we say a lip liner can prove to be a life-changer for you. They help in giving your lips a defined look which further helps in the filling of lipstick. You can also choose to glide it all over your lips if you are looking to make it stay for a longer period. Choose a lip liner shade that is very much similar to your lip shade or you can also choose to go for a nude color to give your lips a fuller look.
Blotting really helps!
Ever faced an embarrassing situation where your lipstick gets stick to your teeth? If yes, we totally feel you girl. It is one of the most common mistakes which we girls do after applying lipstick. Blotting your lips with a tissue always comes handy if you are someone who deals with this problem on a daily basis. Slightly dab tissue paper over your lips, and all the excess lipstick will transfer onto it. You can also choose to set your lipstick by dabbing a little powder over a tissue paper while it’s placed on your lips. It would make sure your lipstick stays for longer.
Don’t rub your lips together after applying a lipstick
Yes, you heard it right! Rubbing your lips together after applying lipstick can easily make your lips appear chapped or less flattering especially if the lipstick is of liquid formula. This trick is not really recommended in the case of liquid lipstick as it dries very quickly hence should always be avoided.
